Armenian Senior Citizen's Club
20 Years Of Commitment

The establishment of the Armenian Senior Citizen's Club in 1978 was inspired by the sentiment that the seniors of our community had a significant and meaningful role to play within the framework of our collective life. With this prevailing notion, 45 senior citizens came together at the invitation of the Armenian Community Executive and began to lay the groundwork which would see this organization grow and flourish and fulfill its mandate.

The Senior Citizen's Club had a clear mission. Through our hard work, dedication and commitment we set out to preserve Armenian traditions, customs, and culture. We were the vanguard of the community, the ones who had the experience and wisdom to help perpetuate our noble heritage. This belief was instrumental in making the Club an outward looking organization, one which would serve not only its own membership but would spearhead projects and goals for the benefit of the community as a whole.

Over the last 20 years, the Senior Citizen's Club has accomplished and enormous and inspiring amount of work. We meet twice a week at the Armenian Community Centre of Encino. It is an opportunity for our members to come together and spend time with one another and to plan upcoming events. We commemorate notional holidays and religious observances. These events have blossomed into annual banquets. We have organized seminars directly related to senior's issues such as health, safety at home and in the community and other social concerns. We have organized English language studies for our members. We have also raised funds for the ARS Day School, Holly Marthyr's Armenian Apostolic Church and other organizations within the Armenian Community. In recent years, we organized a walk-a-thon and other events to raise money for S.M.A.C.C. and donated money for the victims of the Armenian earthquak. We have organized field trips and excursions for our members to many different locales,.

Today, the Armenian Senior Citizen's Club boasts a 130 strong membership. We are as committed and willing to the realization of our objectives as we were when we set out on this journey 20 years ago. On this milestone occasion, we want to express our thanks and gratitude to the Armenian Community Centre Executive, all those individuals and organizations within the Armenian Community who helped and supported the Armenian Senior Citizen's Club not only in its formative years but who continue assisting us in the pursuit of our goals.
